You know you are guilty, but you think you are going to go to heaven because God is a loving God and He will just forgive you?
Think of it this way. A man commits a terrible crime. He rapes and murders a young girl. He walks into the court room and says to the judge, “Judge, I believe you are a good judge. I am sorry. I will never do it again. Please overlook my crime and let me go free.” What do you think the judge will say? If he is a good judge, he will say, “You are right about one thing, I am a good judge and because I am a good judge, I will see to it that you are punished for your crimes!” As the story goes, you did the crime and so you must do the time.
If that is how justice works on the earth for crimes against other people, how much more will God (the righteous Judge) punish people for crimes against Him - breaking His Law called the Ten Commandments. If you have ever told one lie, stolen one thing, blasphemed God one time, dishonored your parents one time, or looked with lust one time, you are guilty of all the commandments according to the Bible.
God is love, but He is also just. Because He is just, He must punish guilty sinners. Hell is the punishment for those who have broken His Law and choose NOT to receive the payment that was made on their behalf when Jesus Christ was murdered, buried and rose again the third day defeating sin and death. You broke God’s law, but Jesus paid your fine.
The Bible makes it very clear. You must repent (turn from your sin) and put your trust in the Saviour Jesus Christ to be saved. You must receive the gift that Christ offers as payment for your sins against holy God. If you will do that, God will commute your death sentence and grant you eternal life with Him.
